With the first
Strangehaven event fast approaching, I decided I'd better buy myself one of those self-inflating sleeping mats (the manufacturers for which claim them to be as comfortable as a proper airbed). The
site we're using has these little dark age (ish) huts with raised wooden platforms for sleeping on, so I need something to put down to soften things a bit. Last time we went there, I took
Dave's self-inflating mat but since he'll be off at
Maelstrom (traitor! ;) ) and will be needing it himself, I thought I'd best get my own.
Anyhow, one trip to
Go Outdoors! later and I have myself a suitable mat. Being one of those people who doesn't like to leave things to chance, I read the instructions and did a test inflate...
This is what happened the instant the bed had inflated itself.
As you can see, Charlie was selfless as always and promptly volunteered to test the comfort and fit of the new self-inflating matress.
From the look on his face I think it was a hit and a successful test, now given the Charlie seal of approval.

Well Charlie certainly does look happy on the airbed (nice pictures). I'm not sure I would trust claws Jasmine near mine she may have to test it for puncture resistance.
I tested mine and was not impressed by the comfort value.
I think the most disturbing thing about Charlie's selfless dedication to making himself useful (being an expert at lying on things) was just how much of that airbed he covered! He keeps on eating and growing and growing and... One day he will stop, won't he?
I too tested the bed - once I'd persuaded the ginormous cat to leave - and was not overly impressed. It's about the same as Dave's though, who tells me that they're not a patch on a real airbed or campbed, but save on faffing.
Sorry but I now have this picture of an Alsatian sized Charlie too big to move lying on your Settee which is bulging from the weight. Then you and Dave dragging into the house every night giant sized sacks of cat food from out the back of your estate car.
Hmmm... He's not the size of an alsation - yet - but I've definitely seen smaller dogs!
He's still gaining weight, mostly as muscle around his shoulders although the muscles along his back and on his back legs are beginning to catch up. We swear he's also grown 'skeletally' (if that's a word), in that he seems taller and longer than when we first took him in. It could all be an illusion of course, in that the great big lump suddenly has muscles which means he is holding himself properly and combined with his new found confidence he likes to be 'big' whenever possible.
None of this is stopping him from being beaten up by the neighbourhood bully though. :-S
I just followed the Dave link...hmm Dave has a tree, it that the best picture of him you could find from Maelstrom. Still he is a traitor so perhaps he deserves it ;)
Actually, that was the only picture of Dave I have already uploaded here... i.e. it's one I took myself and published a couple of months ago. Were I to go looking for a Maelstrom picture I'd put up his Marilyn Mannson look...
